Dr Karla Prime

Karla Prime is a Senior Lecturer of Economics at Newcastle Business School. She is the Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Business with Economics and BSc (Hons) Economics. She has previously been Programme Leader of the Accounting, Finance and Economics Foundation Year Programme.

Karla’s research projects explore the links between international business and economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Her current projects investigate the links between the motives and incentives for foreign direct investment and trade and host nation institutional frameworks, with a focus on the cognitive, normative, and regulative dimensions of institutions. Karla’s research projects examine how local institutional dimensions impact conditions for doing business and economic growth.

Karla is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Academy of International Business and the Regional Studies Association.
Karla currently leads on the undergraduate core module Accounting, Finance and Economics in a Global Business Environment, and the postgraduate International Economics module. She will also be leading the new World Economy module for second year BSc (Hons) Economics students, from academic year 2023.
