I decided to do an LLM in Commercial Law because it is highly demanded in Bangladesh and there are very good career prospects as a company lawyer or academic in Bangladesh. I chose Northumbria Law School as it is one of the best law schools in the UK.

I am optimistic about Bangladesh’s corporate prospects particularly in companies, sector corporations, nationalised enterprises, private, public and multinational companies on corporate, insurance and banking laws, etc. I wanted to be an academic, a successful company lawyer and having a Masters degree from Northumbria in Commercial Law surely has enhanced my career.

What are you doing now?

I am a Pupil Advocate at The Legal Care based in Bangladesh and also work as a Sub-Editor, Writer, Columnist and Political Analyst at Bangladesh Press.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Unquestionably, the Northumbria Law School is one of the best law schools in the UK. The Law school is very well organized, well resourced, huge, vibrant and lively. Northumbria Law School has a world class reputation. In addition, the Northumbria LLM is well recognised around the globe.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

The tutors, supervisors and LLM support team are very friendly, helpful, active, approachable and highly supportive. Northumbria Law School brought out the inherent scholar in me. It was an excellent programme of study.

What impressed you most about our academic staff?

The academic staff are leaders in their own field, very friendly and approachable, always had time to help and to answer my all queries, and to resolve any academic problems which arose during my course of study and dissertation period.

How connected was your course with industry?

The course was very applicable to the real world and we had interesting guest lecturers.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/give your career an edge?

All LLM programmes at Northumbria Law School are very challenging, rigorous, flexible and career-oriented.

What was the best thing about your course?

The Northumbria LLM is very well structured, flexible and thought provoking. The best thing about my course was my dissertation - the time and scope provided for authentic research was priceless!

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Learning about Company Law and Insolvency, e-Commerce Law, Competition Law, Law and Professional Practice, Legal Research in Commercial Law and Intellectual Property law - all relevant to the areas of work which I wanted to consult upon.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Newcastle is a vibrant, lively, beautiful student city. I truly enjoyed my time there!

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

I would highly recommend the Northumbria LLM to all prospective postgraduate students across the planet.
